Known for his cinematic visuals that often embody various characters, emotions and human interaction within a curious fantasy world. James' work is immediately recognisable. His fictional narratives are often drawn from an interest in the distinct relationships and connections we have with family, friends and strangers - and the inherent turbulence of human emotion.
James' photographs often embody a feeling of adventure, freedom, magic and power. There is a unique palette of colours and tones specific to his work. As James is severely colour blind he relies on natural feeling during his edit. This instinctive approach to colour gives his photography a permeating sense of compassion and warmth. James’ innate understanding of beauty, colour and narrative combine to create a captivating and unique voice in visual storytelling and fashion imagery.
James has shot print editorials for Vogue Italia, Vogue Korea, Dazed & Confused Korea, The Telegraph, Elle UK, Primary Paper, New York Magazine and has shot commercially for Gucci, Red Valentino, Net-a-Porter, Nike, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ader Error, Yuhan Wang and various other clients.
James has had work featured in The British Journal of Photography and The Photographers Gallery in central London. His first self-published book “Sunnyside”, now sold out, was distributed through various bookshops around the world.
